I will give a short introduction to the periodic orbit theory and present applications of semiclasical trace formulae to finite fermion systems (nuclei, metal clusters, quantum dots). Finally, I will briefly mention recent developments of semiclassical trace formulae in handling spin degrees of freedom (e.g., spin-orbit interactions), as well as symmetry breaking and periodic-orbit bifurcations in mixed-dynamical systems.
