In a compact review, the recent growth of popularity of quantum models using various manifestly non-Hermitian forms of the operators of observables will be explained. The brief history and key ideas of this innovative approach to quantum mechanics will be summarized and clarified. The emergence of several new domains of the physical applicability of the abstract mathematical formalism of quantum theory will be mentioned. Finally, several simplified illustrative examples will be discussed in more detail.
